Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein
1948
Charles Barton. Walter Lantz
Werewolves, Vampires, Supernatural, Comedy, Black & White
This black & white classic horror film combines the comedy stylings of famous duo, Abbott & Costello, with Universal Studios classic supernatural monsters (Frankenstein's Monster, Dracula, The Wolf Man).
This was legendary horror actor, Lugosi, reprised his role as Dracula for the first time since the original 'Dracula' (1932), and this would be the last time.
The comedy is "slapstick", which is simple and silly humour, very easy-watching, making this a great film to put on in the background while you decorate the house for Halloween.
The pacing is a bit slow at times for a modern audience, the internet hadn't destroyed 40's audiences attention spans.
The special effects were pretty good for the time, but will definitely seem bad, or hopefully charming to you.
The film was wildly successful, rejuvenating the careers of the comedians and Universals Monsters, several sequels followed.
In 2001, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for its cultural significance.
Features Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Lon Chaney Jr., Bela Lugosi, Glenn Strange, Lenore Aubert, Jane Randolph, Frank Ferguson, Charles Bradstreet, Bobby Barber, and others.
