The Birds

1963

Alfred Hitchcock

Must-See, Supernatural, Mystery, Scary

You may be thinking, “what a silly thing to make a horror movie about?” but this film is a must-see masterpiece.
In truth, you may find this suspenseful and thrilling film absolutely terrifying.
Fair warning: You could develop Ornithophobia (fear of birds) from this film, many people have.
The first half of the movie is slow but beautiful, probably the craziest practical joke taken too far you will ever see, and then the chaos ensues, but don’t expect a conclusion.
Believe it or not, 25 000 live birds were captured and used in this film after the fake mechanical birds didn’t look real enough; the birds were given whiskey to make them more docile, but they still attacked the crew.
Hedren gives an incredible performance and went through hell to make this film.
There is no score, just the sound of the birds.
Features Rod Taylor, Tippi Hedren, Jessica Tandy, Suzanne Pleshette, Veronica Cartwright, Ethel Griffies, and others.
