Not Scary, Paranormal, Prequel
This prequel to the must-see masterpiece 'Rosemary's Baby' (1968) doesn't come close to the magic of the original but it is a decent film to expand on the backstory, albeit in a different tone, which may have been a smart idea not to try and recreate the exact atmosphere of the original.
The film tells the story of a girl named Terry from the original, who we saw glimpses of, the biggest being her dead body on the sidewalk outside the apartment building.
Garner gives an incredible performance, as expected, and her acting is definitely the star of the film which revolves almost entirely around her.
The film does feel somewhat inspired by 'Suspiria' (1977).
We kind of wish they had incorporated some elements of a musical into the script and laid even more into the career of the main character.
Overall, this is an entertaining film but we think it perhaps was rushed and needed to bake a little longer.
Features Julia Garner, Dianne Wiest, Kevin McNally, Marli Siu, Jim Sturgeon, Rosy McEwen, and others.
*Trigger warning: suicide, drugging, rape, forced confinement
