An American Werewolf In London

1981

John Landis

Werewolves, Comedy, Must-See, Zombies, Not Scary

This is probably the best werewolf film ever made, the werewolf genre has mostly been explored in tv series, we wish there were more films.
(Our favourite Werewolf series is the comedy 'Big Wolf On Campus')
The films title is a combination of 'An American In Paris'(1951) and 'Werewolf Of London' (1935), and the film pays a little bit of homage to each.
The director and writer John Landis had a really hard time getting the film made, it was believed to be too scary to be a comedy, and we are thankful he was delayed because they wouldn't have been able to pull off the special effects so well in the 70's.
The film has a great setting and story, the gore is well done, the werewolf is excellent, and the werewolf transformation is one of the best ever done; it won multiple awards for makeup.
There is also a bit of romance and quite a bit of nudity, David Naughton shows off all of his ripped body, and we mean ALL of it.
Younger viewers will be shocked at the movie theatre scene... that was how men watched porn before the internet was invented haha
There is a sequel that came out a decade later, 'An American Werewolf In Paris', but it's really more a spinoff and doesn't feature any of the same cast; another sequel set in Rome is rumoured to be coming out 2025.
Features David Naughton, Jenny Agutter, Griffin Dunne, and others.
