Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy
1955
Charles Lamont
Comedy, Mummies, Sequel, Not Scary
The famous slapstick duo dip their toes into the horror genre again with this crossover into the original Mummy Franchise.
Like all Mummy films, this one involves mystery, adventure, and treasure.
We actually think the Mummy looks better in this one despite it being the same re-used suit, and the 50's special effects obviously aren't great, but we hope you see the charm in them.
Not getting anything new in this sequel, it more or less is the same plot as the others, and we would say this one is less entertaining than the Frankenstein sequel (1948).
Interestingly, the film was entirely shot in studio and not Egypt.
If Abbott seems low energy, it is because he had rheumatic fever while filming, the show must go on!
This film was the last of Abbott & Costello’s “Meet the Monsters” series; it followed their successful encounters with Frankenstein, the Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and the Killer.
Features Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Marie Windsor, Michael Ansara, Dan Seymour, Richard Deacon, and others.
