This is the long-awaited sequel to Tim Burton's cult classic film 'Beetlejuice' (1988) and it is so nostalgic and entertaining, a feast for the imagination.
You should watch the original film first but you won't be totally lost if you do not, most of the original cast has returned to play their iconic characters for this sequel.
We love the name of the sequel, it implies that there could be a 3rd film.
The story picks up years after the events of the first film, with the Deetz family still dealing with the aftermath of Beetlejuice's antics, but this film has a new protagonist, Lydia Deetz's teenage daughter, Astrid.
Burton's signature style shines through with quirky, elaborate set designs and creative special effects that transport viewers into a delightfully macabre realm.
The humour is also spot-on, blending slapstick and dark comedy in a way that only Beetlejuice can, and as a bonus the legendary composer Elfman crafted an excellent score that adds to the film's whimsical atmosphere.
This sequel is a must-see masterpiece, equally as good as the original, we only wish it had been attempted a little sooner.
Features Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Catherine O'Hara, and others.
Trigger warning: animal deaths, snakes.
