Comedy, Scary, Paranormal, Must-See
The Frighteners is a hidden gem of the 90s, a must-see classic, blending horror, comedy, and a touch of heart.
Directed by Peter Jackson, the film features Michael J. Fox in one of his most memorable roles before his life altering illness.
The incredible special effects and CGI were cutting-edge for their time, they look very 90's like the movie 'Casper' (1995), and they hold up surprisingly well, adding to the movie's charm.
The sets are also incredible, probably one of the spookiest hospitals in film history; but the star of this movie is the score created by the legendary Danny Elfman, it really completes the film, we wish more films used an orchestra.
While the plot can feel a bit convoluted, the humour, action, and special effects keeps it engaging, but it's not just scares and laughs; there's a poignant undercurrent of loss and redemption.
This film may not be a blockbuster, but it's a fun watch with a unique flavour that stands out even today, perfect for those who love a good mix of spooky and silly.
Features Michael J. Fox, Trini Alvarado, Peter Dobson, John Astin, Jeffrey Combs, Dee Wallace-Stone, Jake Busey, and others.
